Afghanistan – Hurrah for Biden’s words

Rate this post

At last! Some objective truth emerges from a USA president’s lips.

Biden just said that American troops would no longer fight for a people who would not fight for themselves.

“And here’s what I believe to my core: It is wrong to order American troops to step up when Afghanistan’s own armed forces would not.  If the political leaders of Afghanistan were unable to come together for the good of their people, unable to negotiate for the future of their country when the chips were down, they would never have done so while U.S. troops remained in Afghanistan bearing the brunt of the fighting for them.”

The BBC radio news and website omitted those most important words.

The BBC did so because those words were critical to the Afghan army and the government. Both of whom fled instead of fighting for their country.

Biden’s words may seem harsh to some but they just acknowledge historic reality.

I have become used to the BBC’s strange faux liberal views. Many others are overtly critical of Biden but they are the ones who cannot learn from history’s lessons.

The Afghan government fled and the army that we, the USA and others had trained, at huge cost, ran away from the fight too.

Of course everyone is appalled at this tragedy of political regression back to the dark ages.

BUT when I hear the word betrayal aimed at the west I am angered at their inability to see the truth. Many brave and well intentioned people have been working alongside our armed forces for 20 years and their wonderful support for education for girls and to enable women to work, hopefully has not been totally in vain.

The simple fact is that the peoples of countries like Afghanistan have to fight for their own freedom from tyranny.

All past invasions of Afghanistan have failed.

The English and British army has been there six times since 1820 and each time we have been booted out.

The same result applied to the Russians and will so to the Chinese. The Chinese are already moving in to grab what precious metal reserves they can.

Fighting for freedom has always been messy, tragic and wasteful of lives. It takes centuries to achieve something like we what have and enjoy in the UK today.

Now we have to reverse China’s aggression

But we have to do something about China’s economic aggression.

That a major political leader has learned from history is a good start.

  1. Biden carries on quietly delivering on his promise to the Senate. Trump shouted about getting the troops out by the end of May but it was all bluster. Some 2500 American troops and 500 British troops killed in a war far from home and not of our doing. Madness. Nevertheless, the the speed with which the Taliban have overrun the big cities since coalition troops have been withdrawn has been truly staggering. Almost as if the training of government forces was in vain. No orderly withdrawal from Kabul will remind Biden of the US withdrawal from Saigon in 1975, back when Biden had just started out as a senator.
